Yesterday at Full Council, I spoke in response to the Conservative motion on council finances — setting out the facts about Sutton’s record of strong governance, responsible financial management, and long-term leadership.
At a time when councils across the country are under unprecedented pressure from years of underfunding and rising demand, it’s more important than ever to focus on evidence, not finger-pointing. Sutton is a well-run council, with sound finances, strong external audit assurance, and a clear commitment to investing in the borough’s future – from the London Cancer Hub to wider regeneration and community investment.
This administration remains focused on responsible decision-making, protecting vital services, and building long-term resilience for residents – even in one of the toughest financial climates local government has ever faced.
